Bingyi WU is interested in East Asian winter monsoon (EAWM), Atmospheric teleconnection, and connections between the Arctic and the mid- and high- latitudes of Eurasia. He received PhD from Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He conducted a series of studies concerning on the linkages between the Arctic sea ice and atmospheric circulation over the mid- and high-latitudes of Eurasia. He identified a new pattern of Arctic atmospheric variability--Arctic Dipole Anomaly and its impacts on sea ice transportation. From dynamical perspectives, he revealed dominant patterns of Arctic surface wind variability and their contributions to September sea ice extent minima and decline trend.
